Drug Addiction around the Globe

I thought this was a very interesting video.  It covers the lives of addiction in Pakistan after funding for drug rehabilitation programs were cut.  It's interesting to see that drug addiction can creep up in any country on Earth; that we are all indeed human and share many traits.  I find it quite sad and discouraging that a government could let addicts who were actually getting treatment become infected by simply using dirty needles.  Even in a very strict nation like Pakistan drugs are still a major social issue.  Seeing grown men wasting away like dying animals is quite a sight indeed.

I think we don't do enough for drug addicts in the United States.  At some point we have to recognize drug addiction for what it is, a medical disease.  Throwing drug addicts in prison only prolongs the addiction.  They may be clean for a few months to years but there is no real treatment.  There can be no hope to the future while being trapped in a cell with strangers everyday.

Tell me what you think about drug addiction across the globe and in your home country.  Do you want to eradicate all drug addicts?  Is addiction a disease?  Let me know.

  1. This is why we should have focused on Afghanistan. It has become a narco-state and it is not just a problem there, but a problem in the entire region. It's depressing.

I was wondering what your thoughts on marijuana were since you've become sober.

  2. Eradication all drug addicts seems like the idealist way to go, but its impossible so we should treat it like a disease. Constantly finding a cure.

I'm going to do a piece on Marijuana soon enough, I was just saving it for the weekend since it will probably be very long.

  4. I say make them legal. I dont care if someone is addicted. Just take away their right to drive and bare arms.

  5. People should be free to do what they want with there own body, when they start to impede onto others is when it's gone to far.

    Following to see more.

  6. Eradication would be ideal but impractical. Addiction is a major problem that needs people working towards a cure instead of just imprisonment. And I think maintaining the illegality of the drugs leads to more addiction than if it was legal because people would be too afraid of jail to get the help that they know they need.

  7. I think people have a right to do as they please, but I advocate some sort of liscensing/education so that they're aware what it is they're getting into. It's a nasty thing, but who am I to say they can't do it?

  8. My friend killed herself pretty much through her drinking at 21...car accident. I've met one of my new friends and found of some stuff with drugs he went through. Makes me realize a lot of people need some kind of escape in life and that it can be a slippery slope.

  10. Back in high school, my Teen Issues teacher also agreed that drug addicts should not be thrown in prison. This will not help them solve their problem, and tax payers will be forced to pay for their stay. They should be put in to a rehabilitation program.

  12. You know, Drug addiction is a disease, but eradicating it isn't the answer. I really think that people should choose their own paths, and if they don't hurt anyone else then it's ok. Unfortunately drug addiction hurts loved ones as well.

  13. Throwing drug addicts into prisons is ridiculous. They're only hurting themselves, why should anyone have the right to punish them further?

  14. I wish I could just push a button and help these guys out. Maybe one day, when the technology is right, we can really make a dent in the terrible sea of suffering in our world. Until then, we can only do so much.

  15. If they want the help then we should help them. If they need the help but don't want them we should try to convince them that they need it.

  16. Every country has a problem with drug addiction. The countries with developing economies have the worst of it.

  17. Maybe drugs should be legalized, but with extremely high taxes
I may be wrong here...(most likely am)

  18. Depends on the drugs as far as calling it a disease. I'll stick with "epidemic." I mean needle-sharing spreads disease, but needle-sharing is not a disease itself.
Horrible ending of that clip though; the baby hanging in heat while the parents get high.
